Stereoscopic Images (1/?)

The need to find adventure as at the heart of many a Victorian. Alas, they were not always able to physically visit the exotic locations they dreamed of exploring.

They had one delightfully simple and safe method of discovery.

Stereoscopes.

The first viewer was created in the 1830s by Sir Charles Wheatstone, a British inventor. The early images that they viewed were drawn as photographic techniques were unknown at the time.

How many images did they learn by heart, not knowing if they were true to life or merely the imagination of talented artists.
